King Kong of Skull Island VR - Caves

King Kong of Skull Island VR was a multidiscipline team effort. Concepts inspired by Joe Devito in the creation of Skull Island.

My role was to create a cave section that fits Skull Island's style. I first started with reference shots of caves, then made a block-out in the engine. Once approved, I set-dressed the area to lead the player into this cave.

I also had to create a unique modular pot/cauldron modular set that would be used for other artists and myself, to use while set-dressing our scenes.
I first started by gathering concepts from Joe Devito and references to clay cauldrons and braziers. Then I created my concept to create a variety of different shapes.
I created a 3D high-resolution sculpture that would be cleaned and optimized. Then I'd finish the asset with complete textures and place the mesh into the engine to ensure the materials match the quality needed.
I also had to ensure that I only used 1 1024 texture map to create a variety of assets using that one texture.
