Fortnite Glider Fan Art- Chinese To Go Box

With this project I really wanted to push the boundaries of making my own Fortnite prop. I always get so inspired from browsing the store in Fortnite and seeing how creative these props are, especially the Gliders! So I wanted to test myself on if I can actually make my own Glider ;).This only took me a total of 4 days to make!

So first was research on what gliders were already made. then I tossed around a lot of ideals but settled on a To Go box with lo mein noodles flailing in the wind, using chopsticks to hold together the bamboo steamers while the inside of the steamer baskets rotates like a helicopter!
Gathered references and started modeling out this asset in blender. for the noodle base, I sculpt inside zbrush to create my highpoly. I retopped everything and laid out UVs. I then textured the meat and the green onions (there were 5 different varieties of the green onions), I then used geometry nodes to procedurally lay out the green onions on the noodle base, that way it felt as natural as possible. ended up with 3 materials after laying out all of the meshes. took everything into substance painter to texture. created my own masks based off of reference pictures for the highest quality stencils I could use. exported out the gold masks (this is for UE when I created the shimmering effect for the gold with a panner node).

Then I created my own rig, paint weighted everything and animated the deployment phase as well as a looping flight phase. (Please excuse my animation skills here, I just wanted to show how I envisioned it to move!), brought everything into UE and plugged in all of my textures into materials. created a level sequencer where I have my prop attached and rotating as well as activating the 2 animation phases.

The I created a custom FX of one of my green onion meshes, that way I could have Green onions flying out of the box as well. Then lastly, Took a screenshot of the actual store in the game of another glider. Did some photomanipulation to have a clean background from the UI and another with the UI separated, changed the wordings so it matched my asset. Created a sphere where I inverted the face normals so it created a huge dome for a nice background to mimic the store's setup. Added a widget with the UIs for the camera and lastly took a recording of the deployment audio and attached it to my level sequencer to match as close as possible to the real thing!

Hop you enjoy!!!!!
